My fascination for animated videos

Animated videos fascinate me. They were flooding my social media feeds and I would watch them, captivated by their ability to explain complex concepts in such a visually engaging way. But my endless curiosity always persisted: “How do they make these?”

Then, I joined Three Mountains, and I suddenly realized, that making animated videos is one of the things we do here! As an intern, I had to make my first animated video with video scribe software. Learning to work with animation software is somehow difficult, but also very rewarding. I discovered new features and ways to make my video more convincing every time.

Explainer videos are the indicated form of teaching when it comes to making people quickly and efficiently understand complex issues or concepts.  They offer bite-sized learning moments that can be used stand-alone, in face-to-face training sessions, or integrated into longer e-courses.

Recently, we were given the task of creating animated explainer videos for the AfCFTA (Africa Continental Free Trade Area ) I realized that I still did not know how to make videos with animated cartoon characters walking around and talking. Videoscribe does not have that feature. This seemed to me the right occasion to try something new. So I asked the management to buy new animation software. One with moving and talking cartoon characters.

My suggestion was accepted and we purchased PowToon.

With PowToon you do not have to be a programmer to let fancy-talking characters explain your message.  Nevertheless, learning to operate new software is always challenging. For me, it was especially challenging to find the right visuals that matched the text and discover new features. But it was an exciting learning process; finally, I crafted my first masterpiece with talking cartoon characters! I was elated when I heard that our employers liked the videos and were happy with them.

Now I have learned how to use the software and create compelling cartoon videos, I’m in for more!
